How one East End pub is dancing through the hard times

Pubs are the heart and soul of the East End.

From the streets of Hackney to the arches of Bow and the lively corners of Bethnal Green, these spaces have long brought people together for a pint, a story, and a sense of belonging.

But the pub trade is changing fast.

According to a recent BBC article, more than 400 pubs closed in the UK last year. It is a tough time, especially for independent venues in areas like Hackney Wick and beyond.

At The Angel of Bow, we are feeling the pressure too.

But we are not giving up.

We are leaning in.

Instead of cutting back, we are building up our calendar, filling each week with events, community vibes, and good reasons to walk through the door.

If you are searching for pubs near me and want more than just a drink, here is how we are keeping things lively.

Tuesday: Pizza and a Pint for £14.95

Start your week with a proper deal. One of our freshly made pizzas and your choice of pint for just £14.95. It is affordable, simple, and a great way to catch up with mates.

Wednesday: Open Mic Nights

We host the wonderful Nunhead Folk Circle twice a month. On the other Wednesdays, local legends Paddy and Laura take charge. These nights are all about local talent and community energy. If you enjoy live music and are searching for Bethnal Green pubs that still put on a show, this is the night for you.

Thursday: Backgammon Club from 7pm

Our new backgammon night is hosted by Amar and is already building a bit of a following. If you fancy a game and some good company, join us. Players can enjoy exclusive food and drink deals too.

Friday: Karaoke and Bond Club

Once a month, we let loose with karaoke hosted by Teddy. The first one kicks off on 30 May and it promises to be a good one. Add in the buzz of our Friday Bond Club and you have the makings of a proper night out.

Saturday: Drag Brunch and Afternoon Tea

Our Bottomless Drag Brunch runs until 3pm.

Expect performances, unlimited drinks, and a menu that delivers. After that, we are introducing something new: Afternoon Tea is now available for £29.95.

Think sandwiches, scones, sweet treats, and the option to add a glass of fizz. Whether you are planning a birthday or just fancy something a bit special, it is the perfect weekend treat.

We want to make Saturdays in Bow feel unique again.

Sunday: Carvery and Quiz Night

Our Sunday roast has earned a well-deserved reputation, and rightly so. If you're after one of the best Sunday carvery experiences in Hackney, we have you covered.

Then in the evening, our pub quiz brings the day to a perfect close. It is a mix of serious trivia and good laughs with prizes on offer.

Why It Matters

The truth is simple. East End pubs are worth saving.

When you support your local, you are not just buying a drink. You are keeping live music alive. You are helping a local artist get a gig. You are giving someone a place to meet their neighbours. That matters.

If you are hunting for the best pubs in London or looking for Bow pubs with something real to offer, we invite you to stop by.

Whether you are coming from Hackney Wick, Bethnal Green, or just checking Google Maps for pubs near me, we are easy to find and always ready with a warm welcome.

Come for the Roast. Stay for the quiz. Leave with a story.

Love that the East End’s keeping its spirit alive through the hard times—bottomless brunch and a pub auction sounds like the perfect chaotic blend of community and survival. I've been using https://video-face-swap.net

It’s heartbreaking to see so many locals shut their doors, especially when spots like The Angel of Bow are putting in the graft to keep the community alive through the music and the pints. We’ve been making a point to hit the dancefloor there every month just to show support, and I’ve been using https://image-to-3d.org

The bit about Hackney to Bow really hits home—our local’s been doing the same juggling act, and it’s the community that keeps the lights on. I’ve been using https://image-to-stl.com

It’s brutal out there for independents, but places like The Angel of Bow prove the East End’s spirit isn’t going down without a fight. Dancing through the hard times is exactly the kind of resilience Hackney Wick needs right now—I’ve been using this to help local spots stay on their feet: https://deepfacelab.pro

Bottomless brunch and a pub that still knows how to rally the locals—that’s exactly the kind of spirit the East End needs right now. I’ve been using a handy little guide to find more spots like this, check out https://aimusic-video.com
